Central Coast Mariners FC youth league side have continued their unbeaten run defeating Adelaide United 2-1 in their home clash taken to a sunny and warm McKellar Park, near Belconnen Soccer Club, in Canberra.

The Coast started with five overage players, continuing a trend that sees the team treated as much as a reserves side, and may account for them and Sydney sitting at the top of the table. Nevertheless the game really only lifted around the 60 minute mark when both sides made their mandatory youth infusions.

Adelaide started creating more chances, and in the 8th minute Joel Allwright got in a snap shot that just failed to get inside the right post after the Mariners defence had failed to convincingly clear.

In the 15th minute Panni Nikas got the first real chance for the Coast when he made a run on the right but saw his shot blocked by Mark Birighitti in the Adelaide goal, and the defence scrambled in away.

Adelaide took the lead in the 22nd minute when again the Mariners defence couldn't clear and a loose ball was pounced on by Matthew Mullen and hammered past Andrew Redmayne inside the right upright from 25m. 0-1

A corner to the Coast in the 30th minute is punched cleanly clear by a rising Birighitti but the referee saw Daniel Mullen holding Dylan Macallister and awards a penalty. Panni Nikas send the custidian the wrong way and he is unable to get a hand to the ball. 1-1

The Mariners lifted and their over-age players started to creat something up front, but are well held. Just before hald-time the Mariners came close to taking the lead with an attempted chip from Ahmad Elrich from 35m which the 'keeper is able to scramble back to cover.

The second half is inconsclusive until the said youth infusion by both sides sees the game pick up tempo and variation. Inseob Shin hit a 25m shot which dropped awkwardly for Redmayne, and minutes later Shin got in a shot from inside the box, which hot Redmayne’s left post.

In the 87th minute imposing substitute Gavin Forbes sought to head over Birighitti, who parries it, only the have Forbes make a second attempt, this this time in! 2-1

Adelaide may feel they had the better of the play and should have come away with at least a point.
