Sydney FC brought the Champions and league leaders, Brisbane Roar, back to the field with a 1-1 draw at a wet Sydney Football Stadium this afternoon.

Brisbane came to a wet Sydney on top of the table and needing just a draw to stay there, though it would not be in their nature to sit back for one, and it would allow other teams to keep in reach of the title.

Sydney FC for their part needed full points if they were to keep in the safe zone for the finals in only a 10 round league. Last week's scorer Leena Kahmis was left on the bench as they tried to match the physicality of the visitors and the heavy conditions.

Nikola Dieter, the Sydney 'keeper was out to clear in the 5th minute but the heavy ball and pitch slowed everything. The clearing ball fell to the Roar but they couldn't get a shot on target.

Attacking play was rare as the conditions 'bogged down' the play in midfield.

Sydney were playing on the break, with use of width but it was Elise Kellond-Knight in the middle who made their first real chance when she made a run on the right. She made space and crossed to Sarah Walsh whose opportunity was blocked by a quick close down from Roar 'keeper Casey Dumont.

From the 24th minute Roar won a series of corners and they applied pressure down the middle, but Sydney weathered it.

In the 29th minute Deiter came again, under pressure, and covered to move but dropped the ball, hover it was cleared by her defence before the lurking Orange & Maroon could pounce.

Sydney came back, and import Cathrine Paaske shrugged off the weak challenge of Clare Polkinghorne in the area, slipping the shot past Dumontin the 34th minute. 1-0

A chance to Brisbane before the break when Aivi Luik hit a hard shot on target but straight to the Sydney 'keeper.

The second half was devoid of any real clear chances with both teams feeling the weight of their legs.

Lana Harch shot just wide on the left in the 50th minute, and 5 minutes later her custodian, Dumont, had to come to take a high cross.

Ledbrook sent a speculator 30m to try to chip the Roar 'keeper but was wide, and in the 64th minute Dumont dropped a corner however it was cleared by her defence.

Lauren Colthorpe had two blasts close range blocked, one on the line by a Sydney defender, in their best chances of the game. The Roar's fast paced game was stymied somewhat by the conditions but they also looked a little devoid of variation.

It ran out 1-1, a scoreline that gave Sydney a small boost to their chances, whilst the Queensland side dropped their first point
