In the first round of the NSW Premier League, newcomers Parramatta Eagles were stunned by a stoppage time goal by fancied Bonnyrigg White Eagles that ended it 2-2 and denied them a morale-boosting first up win.

Twice home side Parramatta went ahead, through a brace by Fabian Iaocavelli, but despite Parramatta coach Brian Dene almost willing his side to victory from his sideline vigil consistent pressure and experience paid off for Bonnyrigg.

The visitors dominated early as they pressed across the park, with coach Brian 'bomber' Brown setting his team the task of not letting Parramatta settle.

Quite against the run of play, in the 21st minute Bonnyrigg failed to pick up Fabian Iaocavelli moving up the their right post, as Almir Dizdaric jockeyed the ball into the penalty area on the right, and hit a square ball out of reach of two defenders. Iaocavelli made no mistake. 1-0

Bonnyrigg got numbers forward in the 30th minute and from a cross from the right, a mass of Parramatta players failed to clear the ball cleanly and it came out to Brad Boardman who slammed it home from 25m. 1-1

Again Bonnyrigg pressed and again against the run of play Parramatta found themselves in front, only three minutes later. That man, Fabian Iaocavelli, moved out of midfield and down the left. He shrugged off a challenge by ex Sydney FC NYL player David Vrankovic, and with experienced White Eagles 'keeper Phil Zabaks moving to cover, Iaocavelli kept his cool to slot it home in the right side of the goal. 2-1

The game really opened up, with both sides going for it.

Nathan Elasi and Brad Boardman made chances, but Parramatta was defending tightly, keen to keep these vital points.

On Bonnyrigg's part frustration and lack of shape was creeping in during the second half.

In the 69th minute a good chance for ex Sydney FC NYL player Wely Al-Rikaby, when he hit a stinging shot from the edge of the area, that Tom Romic was forced to touch wide.

In the 75th minute Daniel Severino hit a free-kick from 35m that forced the Parramatta 'keeper to parry wide for a corner.

Parramatta were not without their chances, with Kutaiba Elrich and then Ioacovelli hitting over the bar.

Things that go wrong often go wrong in stoppage time. With one minute of the three minute second half allocation remaining Parramatta gave away a soft corner. A short take, and the ball was crossed from the left to Nathan Elasi waiting just inside the penatly area on the right. With a half-volley he breached Romic's defence and scored. 2-2

Parramatta Eagles gave a good account of themselves and shouldn't look on it as 2 points squandered, taking encouragement for their competitive performance so early on in the season.
