It was the Luke Bratten show at the AIS Athletic Field on Saturday afternoon when he netted three times and set up the fourth in Brisbane Roar's 4-1 defeat of the AIS. The scoreline flattered the Roar as the AIS played with much purpose and were dominant for long periods in the opening half.

The opening half showed two teams willing to play the ball around, but unable to find the final touch. Both teams were putting in hard tackles and the referee was left to keep all the players on the field. The Roar team also had four ex-AIS players in the team that added a little spice.

The initial chance fell to Ryan Edwards but he was unable to convert a cross from Hernan Espindola. That was just part of the AIS dominance for the rest of the half. Aaron Peterson and Jake Barker-Daish both had shots without success.

While the second period commenced similar to the way the first ended, it did not take too long before the opening score. The continued AIS strong play was finally to be rewarded.

A loose ball in the midfield was collected by Ryan Edwards and his through ball evaded Canberran Dane Milovanovic falling to the lone striker, and early sub, Peterson. The yougster made no mistake slotting the ball past Matthew Acton.

Peterson should have doubled his tally and that of the AIS when Barker-Daish won the ball in the midfield and fed him on the edge of the penalty area. His shot went well wide.

That opened the door for Luke Bratten, better known for exploits for the first grade team, commencing his goal-scoring exploits. A free-kick from the right-side corner of the penalty area took the slightest of deflections off the wall and then through goalkeeper Aaron Lennox's hands.

The goal gave the Roar momentum and from that point the AIS rarely challenged. Bratten doubled his tally with fifteen minutes left, a solid strike from 25m out that sailed into the top right corner of the net.

His third, with less than five minutes on the clock was the easiest, a tap in. The ball went down the left with Joshua McVey's cross muffled by the close defence. As it slid into the penalty area Connor Chapman got his boot in the way and defelexted the ball just out of the reach of Lennox leaving an easy finish for the striker.

Bratten would also be involved in the final goal, provider for Matthew Thurtell to tap in when the two were left in a two on one with Lennox. The final scoreline of 4-1 was not indicative of the game, yet the difference of experience as shown by Bratten told in the end.

Brisbane remain on top of the ladder while the AIS must regroup for their next clash.
