Season 4 W-League Fixtures released ![]()
27/09/2011: Football Federation Australia (FFA) have today released the Westfield W-League 4th season (2011/12) draw. The seven team competition play 35 matches over the a limited 12 week season from the October 21 start until January 15, 2012, finishing on January 28 with the Westfield W-League 2012 Grand Final. ABC TV will again cover the ‘match of the week’ live and exclusive on ABC1 throughout. This season also sees a host of new coaches enter the league, including some imports, thus perhaps varying the tactics and styles of play ...

27/09/2011: Qantas Socceroos Head Coach Holger Osieck today named his 19-man squad for the upcoming international friendly match against Malaysia (in Canberra on Friday 7 October 2011) and subsequent 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian Group 'D' Qualifier against Oman (Sydney, Tuesday 11 October 2011). Notable omissions are Socceroo A-League recruits Brett Emerton and Harry Kewell.

21/09/2011: A flat and understrength Olyroos side were held to a 0-0 draw by a solid United Arab Emirates (UAE) side in their first Group B 2012 London Olympic Games Asian Qualifier at Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide tonight. In the other game Uzbekistan beat Iraq 2-0 at home to top the group. The Olyroos play Iraq away on 23 November. [ AFC more ...]

11/09/2011: The Australians finished third in the 2012 London Olympics qualification tournament in Jinan, China, coming from behind to defeat South Korea (ROK) 2-1 (with the Matidas goals by Tameka Butt and Lisa De Vanna). 08/09/2011: The Matildas defeated the host team China 1-0 today in the fourth of five matches of the 2012 London Olympics qualification tournament in Jinan, China. Strong goalkeeping by Lydia Williams then a 62nd-minute goal by Emily Van Egmond was enough as they hung on. They now sit in third place behind Japan and DPR Korea. The Australians will again be desperate for a win when they play South Korea on 11 September, and hope Thailand hold North Korea. [ AFC more ...]

07/09/2011: Australia moved top of Group D in their AFC World Cup qualifying campaign with a 3-1 victory over Saudi Arabia at the Prince Mohamed bin Fahd Stadium in Dammam. Josh Kennedy scored either side of half-time to give the Qantas Socceroos a 2-0 lead, before the hosts found a reply through Nasser Al Shamrani. But Luke Wilkshire converted a late penalty to seal the three points With Thailand beating Oman at home the Group is taking on an interesting look.

05/09/2011: The Matildas were defeated 0-1 by world champions Japan today in the third match of their 2012 Olympic qualification campaign. Although no score at haf-time the Australians were under pressure and Nahomi Kawasumi scored in the 62nd minute at Shandong Sports Centre in Jinan, China. The Matildas will be now desperate for wins when they next play China on 8 September and South Korea on 11 September. [ AFC more ...]

03/09/2011: Australia 5 (Simon 14', Heyman 16'/34', Butt 45' Van Egmond 58') defeated Thailand 1 (Taneekan 59') at the Jinan Olympic Sports Centre in China this evening. The Matildas raced to a 4-0 lead at half-time but struggled to dominate in the second half. The Matildas next play against Japan at the Shandong Sports Center on Monday September, 2011. 02/09/2011: Australia's Socceroos have beaten Thailand 2-1 tonight in front of 24,540 at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, but were on the back foot after 15 mins when a break-away goal by Teerasil Dangda rocked the crowd. Two late goals by Josh Kennedy (58') and substitute Alex Brosque (86') gave the home side a welcome 3 points. In the other group game Oman held Saudi Arabia to a 0-0 draw. The journey to a third consecutive FIFA World Cup heats up next week in Saudi Arabia.

01/09/2011: Australia fell to arch-rivals DPR Korea 1-0 in the final round of qualification for the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament London 2012. The Koreans went ahead in the 10th minute with Kim Su Gyong assuredly putting away a cross. Despite some solid chances throughout the match, the Matildas were unable to equalise. The Matildas next play against Thailand on Saturday 3rd September, 2011 needing a clear win. [ AFC more ...]

24/08/2011: Qantas Socceroos Head Coach Holger Osieck today named his squad for Australia’s opening 2014 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers against Thailand (Brisbane, 2 September 2011) and Saudi Arabia (Dammam KSA, Tuesday 6 September 2011). An extended squad of 23 players includes all 18 players who were part of the Qantas Socceroos squad that recently defeated Wales in Cardiff City earlier this month as well as Brett Holman who withdrew due to a slight groin strain. Into the Qantas Socceroos squad are goalkeeper Nathan Coe, defenders Sasa Ognenovski & Mark Milligan and striker Josh Kennedy. [ FFA more ...]

22/08/2011: Westfield Matildas Head Coach Tom Sermanni today announced his 20-player squad who will depart next week for China to compete for a place at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Returning to the squad are experienced pair Sarah Walsh and Thea Slatyer who have both battled back from injuries that kept them out of the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany. Australia’s road to the Olympics begins next month in Jinan, China, in a gruelling six team, 11 day round robin tournament with the top two teams progressing. 22/08/2011: Football Federation Australia (FFA), the South Australian Government and Football Federation South Australia (FFSA) today announced that the Qantas Australian Under 23’s will play their first 2012 London Olympic Games Asian Qualifier against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide on Wednesday 21 September (kick-off 7:00pm). The venues and kick-off times for the remaining matches of the Qantas Australian Under 23’s campaign are expected to be confirmed by the AFC in the near future. Asia are allotted 3.5 slots for the London 2012 Olympic Gamers men’s football tournament.

22/08/2011: Qantas Young Socceroos Head Coach Jan Versleijen today named his 18-player squad for the SBS Cup which will be played in Shizuoka, Japan later this week (18-21 August). The U19 squad includes 17 Australian-based players and one overseas-based player, Aaron Lennox, however some first choice players are unavailable. 21/8/2011: 'Rage progress with final game ever for Central Coast FC ' - This final game ever for Central Coast FC, should have been played at Pluim Park last Friday night before an expected large home crowd ready to show their appreciation to the current players for over a quarter of a century competing in the NSW Super League, but due to heavy rain and a flooded pitch, it was transferred to Granville’s home ground two days later.
