Hyundai A-League

Brisbane Roar FC - Wellington Phoenix FC

Friday night sees Brisbane at home again against the visitors from across the Tasman. At 8pm the Postecoglou experiment will continue and watchers will be interested in whether the exciting wirlwind style will continue, and whether it will work against a well organised side like Wellington. Paul Ifill's goal last week was of a quality to indicate he is right back to his best and will play a role in this game. My tip - a score draw.

North Queensland Fury FC - Adelaide United FC

Saturday evening in Townsville will be mild compared to Adelaide's recent weather but the fans are in for a treat if Frank Straka's charges can continue their carefree approach to games and Rino Coolen is able to extract some more guile into the Red's slashing counter-punching style. Tip - the more experienced Reds might just put Fury under enough sustained pressure to snatch this.

Sydney FC - Central Coast Mariners FC

The 'commuter's nightmare' derby comes back to a more sensible Saturday evening and will pit Graham Arnold's somewhat experimental team against Sydney blunted attack. Don't expect too many goals or even much excitement but fans will get the sort of committed display from both sides that is typical of this game. The inclusion of Mark Bridge for Sydney will be a plus but losing captain Terry McFlynn to injury could be crucial. My tip - Coast by one goal.

Gold Coast United FC - Melbourne Victory FC

How both sides of this Sunday clash must strain at the leash that only 2 draws apiece puts on their table position! So this will be a thriller right through to the 90mins plus stoppage time. With Shane Smeltz looking likely to move to Turkey and therefore not included in the squad, and with Robbie Kruze starting his second game, this will come down to how the two coaches - the dour Ernie Merrick and the sometimes enigmatic Miron Bleiberg, get their teams firing! My tip - an away Victory to Melbourne by the odd goal.

Head-to-Head: All matches (played 3): Gold Coast United 1 win, Melbourne Victory 2 wins

Melbourne Heart FC - Perth Glory FC

Sunday also has Perth Glory travelling east to take on Melbourne Heart at the Melbourne Football Stadium. Heart are struggling to live up to the hype and indeed the potential that their star-studded first 11 would suggest, and part of that is the absence of Josip Skoko and John Aloisi. Add Micheal Beauchamp to that list this week and it is a big ask even at home to get off the bottom of the table by stopping the impressive Glory outfit, even with Mile Sterjovski and Jamie Harnwell out. My tip - more sadness for now for the new side and a win to Perth. Sunday, 29 August 2010 - AAMI Park, Melbourne - Local kick-off: 5pm AEST
