Fearless A-League Predictions for Season Seven
- Premiers and the table at R25 (2011/2012)

Prior to the Pre-Season Cup kicking off our team of HAL writers at BOTN (across Australia and NZ) were asked to lock in their predictions for the season. They were asked to give each of the ten teams in this year's A-League competition a final position placing after the 25 rounds, from 1st to 10th!

Our team picked all over the shop again, but with - Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne Victory ahead of the pack - and Gold Coast, Wellington and Newcastle (mostly before the sacking) looking shaky!

On a consolidated basis we predict that the end of season table (might be):

    Club BOTN Team Ranking Highest
    Brisbane Roar FC 1st 1 6
    Melbourne Victory FC 2nd 1 5
    Sydney FC 3rd 1 7
    Central Coast Mariners FC 4th 2 7
    Adelaide United FC 5th 1 8
    Melbourne Heart FC 6th 1 8
    Perth Glory FC 7th 3 10
    Gold Coast United FC 8th 3 9
    Wellington Phoenix FC 9th 6 10
    Newcastle Jets FC 10th 6 10

Considering we jointly picked Brisbane to come 8th and the Mariners 10th last season (lol) - ONE of our writers has stuck his neck out to justify HIS picks:

1st - Melbourne Victory - The Harry Kewell factor is going to play out big time for the biggest club in the A-league. With more attacking options than Bruce Lee, will defence be the contributing factor for bring down the Giant? Expect big scoring matches this year (and maybe the toilet seat).
2nd - Brisbane Roar - Sure the lose of three key playmakers is big, but the system may prevail but fall at the last hurdle.
3rd - Central Coast Mariners - No real losses of key personnel and a wee bit of strengthing in the middle of the park, this will once again be a season were the Mariners will get lost at sea and not make the Grand Final.
4th - Sydney FC - Will Brett Emerton be the chosen one to bring Sydney their third ring? I say maybe not this year.
5th - Perth Glory - The under-achievers of the last three seasons, but with Vukovic, Dodd, Smeltz and van den Brink all coming in, will Ian Ferguson get results or more heartache for the Glory faithful.
6th - Adelaide United - With the recruiting of Vidosic and Djite, the City of Churches will be firing up front, but their defence my be a wee bit suspect.
7th - Melbourne Heart - Out with the very old, in with the young and not so old. The Heart have recurited well with Dugandzic and Fred but will Simon Colosimo walk before the start of the season to the other side of town?
8th - Gold Coast United - With the lose of there Big Two in Culina and Smeltz, the Glitter Strip and Clive Palmer will have a season they won't want to remember with record crowds, lows that is.
9th - Wellington Phoenix - Another team going through an ownership change, the Phoenix may once again surprise everyone and make the finals, than again I might get a call from Nathan Tinkler to coach the Jets.
10th - Newcastle Jets - After the shock sacking of the coach and the Marquee player 4 days out from the season opener, the New Tinkler Era is going to be the longest and hardest season for the Jets. I wonder if they have called Craig Foster to become the new Captain/Coach?

I suppose you think we clearly don't know what we are doing? You are probably right!

Methodology: Each writer gives places all the teams 1-10, and the team with the lowest average placing is the 1st on the table. Equal results if any are separated by finding the median score for that team. Look how far we were out last year:

Don't be surprised if we are wrong! We certainly won't be!
