Ten-men Gold Coast United have held Melbourne Heart to a 2-2 draw at John Cain Memorial Park on Saturday afternoon.

Craig Goodwin gave the hosts an early lead before Daniel Severino brought the visitors back on level terms but after Jake Barker-Daish missed a penalty Gold Coast went onto equalise thanks to Bobby Russell.

Melbourne Heart started on the front foot with Craig Goodwin pushing on the left and he beat two defenders before finishing powerfully past Jerrad Tyson.

But soon later Gold Coast should have equalised through Barker-Daish but the Young Socceroo hit the post.

On 21 minutes Gold Coast did equalise thanks to Daniel Severino who was played in by a nice flick by Chris Lucas before the overage player finished with his right foot.

Five minutes later Goodwin put in a brilliant cross onto the plate for Adrian Zahra who poked home to take the lead. However the ball went through the net and after discussion with his Assistant Brenton Hayward correctly gave the goal.

Heart were looking to extend their lead not long later when Goodwin chipped another ball into the box but Josh Groenewald headed wide.

Six minutes before half-time Lucas was sent off for a two footed, late challenge on Groenewald.

Although the visitors were down to 10 they had a great chance to get one goal back with Mitch Cooper but the Joey's strike was well saved by Nikola Roganovic.

Ten minutes into the second-half Kristian Konstantinidis fouled Barker-Daish and a penalty was awarded. The Melbourne born Gold Coaster stepped up but Roganovic saved brilliantly.

Half way through the half Cooper was played in by Josh Brillante but Roganovic saved with a great save once again. Only moments before Brodie Patterson had a great chance but his finish was easily saved by Tyson.

On 77 minutes Bobby Russell equalised for the visitors from a defensive mistake. Konstantinidis poked the ball directly out to Russell after a cross from the right. Russell then comfortably finished.

Patterson continued to look for a winner but Tyson saved his long effort comfortably.

Heart couldn't find a winner and neither could Gold Coast but the visitors would feel the better of the two sides. This result means Heart draw their first game of the season and stay sixth with Gold Coast too remaining in fifth position on the National Youth League ladder.
