Perth Glory came back from two goals down to defeat Central Coast Mariners 3-2 in Round 2 of the National Youth League at Pluim Park, Lisarow on the NSW Central Coast on a showery Sunday.

As is common at this level only 8 players turned up from the squads of the corresponding fixture last season - 5 for Coast and 3 for Glory.

The home side were strong in the first half despite Glory having 4 over age players on the field, and led 1-0 at half-time. A goal in the 28th minute by young first squad member Brad McDonald after a mistake by the Glory midfield was all they had to show. 1-0

Re-signing striker Mitchell Duke scored the second goal in the 54th minute from a great defence-splitting returned pass from Mustafa Amini. 2-0

The Coast looked likely to go on with first win of the season, but Perth, stung by the goal (and with the hosts going into their common mid game funk) picked up the tempo.

Glory proceeded to score three goals in 12 minutes to make it back-to-back wins, and an important one 'on the road'.

Re-signing Brandon O'Neill got the first with a powerful low shot when under no pressure out on the right, and beat Mariners goalkeeper Dylan Mitchell in the 60th minute. 2-1

Seven minutes later scores were levelled when Tommy Amphett out-thought substitute wing-back Freeburn. 2-2

Perth's comeback was completed when journeyman defender Steve McGarry was forward in the box to capitalise on a high-ball dropped by the leaping Dylan Mitchell in the 71st minute. 2-3

The Mariners at last arose from thri slumber and finished strongly. Zachary Freeburn got down the right and shot just over the bar from close range after a good build up, and then replacement striker Kwabena Appiah-Kubi had a goalbound effort cleared off the line with the goalkeeper beaten in the 81st minute.

In the 84th minute a strike from Central Coast defender Trent Sainsbury was well parried by Lewis Italiano in the Glory goal, before former Spirit FC recruit Kwabena Appiah-Kubi spun in the air but headed the rebound on to the post and away.
