Melbourne Victory has managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Canberra United in front of a record crowd at the Veneto Club in their last home game of the season.

Victory coach Vicki Linton praised her team's performance on the day against the undefeated United.

"I'm really pleased with the result and the effort that the girls put in... We created some really, really good chances and a one-all draw against these girls is a good effort," said Linton The draw means that Victory is undefeated at home for the season.

Current Golden Boot leader Michelle Heyman opened the action in the third minute, beating two Victory defenders just inside the box before firing a shot just over the crossbar.

Then less than a minute later Ashley Brown shot from nearly the same position at the opposite end but this time was denied by goalkeeper Lydia Williams.

The game entered a lull until the 19th minute when Nicole Sykes and Kendall Fletcher collided inside the box leading to a Victory penalty and a yellow card to Sykes.

A minute later Jodie Taylor put the spot kick past Williams into the bottom right corner giving Victory the opener.

Victory had not lost a game all season after leading and it seemed that the trend would continue.

Fletcher and Taylor were again involved in a chance in the 21st minute, with Fletcher passing the ball wide to Taylor with a one-on-one opportunity against the keeper. However she failed to get past Lydia Walters and the ball deflected for a corner.

United eventually gained some momentum in the 30th minute with Caitlin Munoz almost chipping the keeper from well outside the area.

Then a minute later Victory's Rebekah Stott managed to deny Heyman on the goal line, blocking her shot and clearing the ball away.

Again Victory found themselves with a one-one opportunity with Fletcher managing to sneak through United's defence, however again they failed to convert from close range.

In the 47th minute United had a chance of their own one-on-one with the keeper, however like their opponent Ashleigh Sykes couldn't convert an equaliser.

Moments later Jodie Taylor took a free kick for Victory from just outside the left side of the box and almost managed to curl the ball into the top right corner, however she was denied by the crossbar.

Momentum slowly moved towards United as the game moved into its latter stages. Heyman still looked dangerous and in the 52nd minute she was not far from a Taryn Hemmings cross into the area.

In the 75th minute another dangerous ball from Hemmings managed to go across the face of goal but again there was no one lurking to finish it off.

The equaliser came in the 81st minute with Heyman getting the ball on the edge of the box, turning well and finishing strongly into the bottom left corner.

Three minutes into extra time and United almost doubled their score. A great ball from Grace Gill into the area to Taryn Hemmings set her up one-on-one in front of the keeper; however a great save by Brianna Davey let Victory take a point away from the game.

Victory now travels to Adelaide to try secure a place in the top-four while United has now finished the official season on top of the ladder.
