Melbourne Victory cemented their spot in the W-League Final Series with a 4-1 defeat of Adelaide United at Burton Park on Sunday.

After Adelaide took the lead through Marijana Rajcic, Katrina Gorry, Ashley Brown, Caitlin Friend and Kendall Fletcher scored for Victory to finish the season in fourth place.

Katrina Gorry for Victory created the first chance on 3 minutes when she shot a right footed effort but it was fired over.

Two minutes later Katherine Ebbs for the hosts crossed a great ball over to Donna Cockayne but her first-time shot was hit over.

On 11 minutes Ashley Brown cut in from the left but chipped her effort over the Sian McLaren's net.

Victory started to dominate the chances and the possession on 16 minutes with Gorry looking dangerous. The 19-year old played a great ball with the outside of her foot but again Brown fired well over.

Brown then played in a corner and the ball directly hit the post without a touch with Adelaide defenders confused in what to do.

On 20 minutes Marijana Rajcic could have opened the scoring but here header was cleared off the line by Amy Jackson.

Only one later Rajcic did open the scoring from the resulting corner with a powerful header past Brianna Davey.

Gorry was still causing havoc for the Lady Reds' defence and shot once again over.

On 31 minutes Gorry equalised for the Victory. Englishwoman Jodie Taylor played through the former Adelaide player whose left footed effort crept under McLaren to trickle across the line.

Three minutes later Victory should have taken the lead with Taylor as the 25-year old turned at the same time before shooting but her effort hit the base of the post.

On 36 minutes Brown gave Victory the lead with her first goal in the W-League. Brown's cross floated in the wind into the back of the net as McLaren was off the line.

Rajcic then tried an ambitious overhead kick but Davey got back on her line to save.

Just before half-time Rebekah Stott crossed over for Caitlin Friend but her header was skied over.

The Lady Reds pushed right up to the other end with Georgia Macri but here left footed effort was too weak.

With the last kick of the ball in the first-half Friend made it 3-1. The young forward crossed with her left foot and the ball caught in the wind before sailing into the net. A very much similar goal to Brown's earlier in the half.

Victory came out looking to extend that lead through Taylor but her strike was well tipped over by McLaren in goals.

Kendall Fletcher was next to try her luck but she fired over after some great work by Brown.

On 59 minutes Rachael Quigley shot from distance but Brianna Davey saved comfortably.

Quigley was looking dangerous for the Lady Reds and made a great run before Macri fired over.

Gorry continued to look dangerous and shot once again but McLaren made a great save for Adelaide.

On 84 minutes Macri and Nenita Burgess both could have scored. After Anna Green's corner fell for Burgess her shot was blocked then Macri shot straight at Davey.

In stoppage time Fletcher extended the lead with a fourth when her first attempt was blocked and her follow up shot was slotted into the corner of the net.

Melbourne Victory finish the W-League in fourth and will travel to Canberra next weekend for the Semi Final while Adelaide take the Wooden Spoon for finishing bottom for the second consecutive year.
