(Tara Andrews 87')

Sydney FC 4
(Sarah Walsh 47', Thea Slatyer 55', Caitlin Foord 54', Heather Garriock 75')

Newcastle Jets suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday when they somehow managed to allow a solid display in the first half turn into a seven minute rout in the second in front of nearly 1,000 mostly local fans. Sydney FC came away with their first win and 3 points, to jump the Jets on the table.

The home side was defending well early and always looking for the quick break through Lisa DeVanna, until the speedster colided with Sydney's 'keeper Allison Lipsher in the 16th minute and was laid out. She left the field and didn't return for some minutes looking the worse for it.

In the 30th minute De Vanna applied overwhelming pressure on the Sydney defender Estelle Johnson on the ball, and the deflection sailed over Lipsher and just outside of the left upright.

Both teams had the ball in the opponents net before half-time, but disallowed for off-side - testament to the attacking mindset being displayed by both sides in warm humid conditions under leaden skies.

De Vanna did not retake the pitch after the interval, and the Jets looked the worst for it with very little to bother Lipsher in that half until Tara Andrews received the ball with space for a change in the 87th minute, rounded Lipsher out on the right and slotted the ball across the face of goal but into the net.

But that was before Sydney's flurry of activity.

Within just 2 minutes of the re-start Sarah Walsh evaded her marker and slotted one past the advancing Melissa Barbieri. Thea Slatyer was on hand to add a second in the 55th minute, pouncing on a loose ball after a corner.

In the 60th minute Monnique Koefod received a great through ball from Emily van Egmond but couldn't get a clear shot on target.

The home side looked to be re-grouping but disaster in the 53th minute when a tired looking Nicola Bolger knocked a back-pass well away from her 'keeper, Melissa Barbieri, and substitute Caitlin Foord was in like a terrier to claim the ball and steer it past the advancing 'keeper.

In the 75th minute Heather Garriock got down wide on the left, and hit a cheeky chip over Barbieri. The Matildas custodian twisted and rose well but her fingers could not keep the ball out from under the crossbar.

Sydney had obviously solved it's attacking attributes from the previous game, and deserved a win, while the Jets looked to tire after doing well.

It was a good game, with a good crowd in to the Jets new W-League and NYL home at Adamstown Oval - the home of the famous Rosebuds, founded in 1889.
