Newcastle Jets have returned to the winners circle in the W-League with a dominating 3-1 win over their still struggling visitors Perth Glory at Adamstown in Newcastle on Wednesday afternoon.

This round 6 deferred game was played in sunshine but mild conditions that allowed the teams to go at-it right through - although the Jets had to adjust when going down to 10, with a 67th minute second yellow to Hannah Brewer.

The Jets will be relieved to have gained the points after a horror spell over recent rounds and even better to appeared to have regained some form and formation. This was despite, or in fact because of, the absence of Matilda Lisa DeVanna as the team needed to shoulder the burden themselves.

The game began with Newcastle winning an early corner, though the Glory were looking committed and sharp.

By the 10th minute however the Perth 'keeper Mackenzie Arnold was getting busy, and twice within minutes had to save a shot from the Jets speerhead Tara Andrews, and to smother a chance by coming out fearlessly.

The first goal seemed inevitable as the Glory defence looked incapable of stemming the multiple threats from midfield by the Jets, and in the 23rd minute Tara Andrews pounced on another parried save from Arnold, from a shot by Nicole Bolger, and she netted from the left for 1-0 lead.

Glory's defensive woes increased a minute later when full-back Erika Elze was stretchered off with a leg injury.

Mackenzie Arnold was plucking high balls out of the air, and parrying shots, as her defenders struggled to track and hold the waves of Jets' attacks. At the other end an underworked Jets' 'keeper Melissa Barbieri barked out advice as any promising moves down the right by Perth's Katie Holtham were smothered with some fine defending by Stacey Day.

Nicole Bolger got another shot on target in the 42nd minute but it was again parried by Arnold. From the corner the ball was cleared way down the right to Holtham who was 'away', when brought back by a bad off-side call. Glory were however lucky to go into the break only one goal down.

Within 4 minutes of the break Marianna Tabain got Glory's best chance to then, when weaving into the Jets' penalty area on the left she shot weakly and gave Barbieri no problem.

Arnold was putting her body on the line, and was 'cleaned-up' in the 55th minute by an equally committed Tara Andrews in the area.

Sustained Newcastle pressure 'across the line' led to the second goal.

Emily van Egmond weaved into the area in the 55th minute, and set up Nicole Bolger who steered her shot into the right corner of the net from right in front, and past a fully diving Arnold. 2-0

Five minutes later it was van Egmond who scored, beating off another of Arnold's fearless attempts to smother the ball at her feet, and pushed the ball home in the 60th minute. 3-0

With this goal, and with the 'sending off' of Brewer in the 67th minute, Perth managed to regroup and. lift. Granted more space and time in midfield to build moves they created some chances for themselves.

This new pressure was shown when Alanna Kennedy rushed into a defensive header, just past her own left upright.

In the 78th minute the Jet's gave away a free-kick 30m out on the left. A pinpoint ball found the rising Katie Holtham in the area, whose forceful and well directed header left Barbieri rooted to the spot. 3-1

Renewed raiding down the left by Jets' substitute Rhali Dobson made the Glory think twice on that flank - but they still looked more dangerous than for most of the game - as the home side settled for the scoreline.
