(Oliver Bozanic 3', Adam Kwasnik 25', 56', O.G. 43')

Sydney FC
(PeterTriantis 26', 71')

Mariners Youth looked like emulating the performance of their A-league team the previous night when, at one stage in the second half, they led 4 goals to 1, but had to be content with a 4-2 victory to retain their unbeaten record for the new season and remain on top of the Youth League table.

On a warm, blustery Sunday morning, the Mariners took quick advantage when, in the third minute, Adam Kwasnik controlled a loose ball just outside the Sydney penalty area and slipped a quick pass to an unmarked Oliver Bozanic who fired a low shot past goalkeeper Anthony Bouzanis for an early lead.

Mariners continued to have most of the play for the first twenty minutes and Kwasnik and Bozanic each had golden opportunities to increase their lead but on both occasion their shots finished in the arms of Bouzanis.

Sydney went close to equalising when Alec Urosevski made a quick run from midfield and with the goal at his mercy shot wide of the right hand goalpost.

On the twenty five minute mark, Kwasnik doubled his and his team's score, when he jumped high to head home a corner from Adriano Pellegrino.

Within a minute Sydney reduced the lead when Peter Triantis fired a low shot from the edge of the penalty to give Mariner's goalie Luke Turnbull.

With half time just about to be taken, Mariners restored their two goal lead when, under pressure in the six yard box, Sydney defender Aaron Calver deflected a shot into his own net.

Following the break, Sydney put pressure on the Mariner's goal but the defence held firm. Mariners got a break away Anthony Caceres sipped a perfect pass to Kwasnik who made no mistake from five metres.

The customary mass substitutions took place on the hour mark and the Mariners appeared to lose their free flowing game they had been playing up 'til then and Sydney again started to put on the pressure.

With twenty minutes remaining Aaron Peterson was adjudged to have committed a foul against a Sydney attacker in the Mariner's penalty area and Triantis scored from the penalty spot to reduce the lead to two goals.

The remainder of the game was played without either team looking like adding to the score and at the final whistle the Mariners went home with the three points.

Mariner's coach, John McLafferty, was naturally very happy to have retained their 100% record but felt that the game changed when all the substitutions were made.

"It is a fact that both teams lost their rhythm when all the substitutions were made at the one time, but it is something we will all to get used to. It is the same for all teams and some handle it better than others. Four goal in the first hour showed we are on the right track and it was good to see the three first grade boys getting fit and improving their game after bad injuries".
