Hills Brumbies FC 1
(Daniel Fogarty 40′)

It was a cold evening at Christie Park for the deferred 11th round of the NSW National Premier Leagues Mens 2 and a poor game but in the end some fireworks late from both sides saw a 1-1 draw between hosts Spirit Fc and Hills Brumbies FC.

The visitors dominated the first 30 minutes, but their penetration was down the wings mainly and they couldn’t get the ball to the feet of their strikers.

In the 40th minute the off-side trap that Spirit had been relying on to take them square to the half-time break, failed. Daniel Fogarty was played in superbly by a ball from Anthony Schmidt, and with Murray Nelsom in the Spirit goal advancing he slipped the ball past him and into the net. 0-1

Spirit lifted a little in the second half, with some key substitutions, but it was the Brumbies who had a good chance, but failed with a snap shot in the 70th minute. Three minutes later luck for Spirit when Murray Nelson was able to scramble and get one hand on a dangerous loose ball.

Spirit applied the pressure, with substitute striker the focal point. In the 73rd minute a goal-mouth melee led to an adjudged shove by the Hills keeper on an attacker, and the referee pointed to the penalty spot and flashed yellow.

Tim Simpson stepped up and hit low and to the left, but the keeper got a hand to it and pushed it onto the post and out. The referee, rightly in this writers opinion, brought the penalty back to be re-taken as the Hills custodian had moved off his line before boot was put to ball. Simpson took it again, and this time forcefully to the right and in. 1-1

Spirit were now dominant, and Simpson got into a good position to head on goal but it was touched over. Along range strike was also pushed over by the Brumbies glove-man.

One point each then, which gave some solice in regards the wooden spoon race but did nothing to lift them in range of the finals places.
