Melbourne Heart and Adelaide United played out an entertaining 3-3 draw on a hot afternoon at AAMI Park.

Steven Lustica and Sergio Cirio put the Reds up 2-0 at half time, before a couple of great strikes from Andrea Migliorini cancelled the deficit.

David Williams then scored a debatable penalty while Marcelo Carrusca scored a deflected free kick to save the Reds blushes.

Adelaide begun the match in perfect fashion, scoring in the third minute thanks to some lovely football in the build up.

As Jeronimo received the ball, he played in Fabio Ferreira who got free of Aziz Behich.

Ferreira then cut back a cross for an on-rushing Lustica, who had two bites at the cherry to score a simple goal for Adelaide.

Heart tried to respond to the early setback, but they were struggling with profligacy in front of goal.

First Mifsud wasted a good through ball by Williams, scuffing his shot wide of the post.

The Maltese international had plenty of space and time, but the finish lacked the quality required.

Mifsud again squandered another opportunity on 14 minutes, as he went to round Eugene Galekovic, the Reds keeper stuck out a palm brilliantly saving the Reds lead.

Heart were made to pay for missing their chances to equalise, as Jeronimo and Cirio combined well to produce the second goal for Adelaide.

The Argentinian played a one two with Cirio, but his shot was parried by Redmayne, and the rebound fell into the path of Cirio who gladly stroked the ball into the back of the net.

Heart were looking vulnerable defensively, and were hardly making Adelaide United work hard for their possession.

Mifsud had a glorious opportunity to pull a goal back on 37 minutes, when Galekovic went on a walkabout out of his box.

The striker beat Galekovic with ease, but as he waltzed into the box, his shot at the open goal was woeful and the ball floated past the far post.

It summed up Heart’s first half, which was far from the standard which they required.

Adelaide had more chances to extend their lead before the break, but Jeronimo’s shots were blocked from testing out Redmayne, although there was a big claim for handball with one in particular.

Kisnorbo also had a chance to score for Heart, but after rising well for a Dugandzic corner he put his header narrowly wide.

Aloisi made a change at half time bringing on Golgol Mebrahtu for Mate Dugandzic, and the move paid off as the home side came out firing in the second half.

While Adelaide had a couple of early chances, it was Andrew Migliorini who scored for Heart, unleashing an unstoppable 30 yard effort that dipped into the top corner of the goal.

It was a moment of genius that sparked the home side into life, and they began to get on top.

Mebrahtu had a chance to score just a couple of minutes later, but he was foiled by Galekovic who produced a stunning save.

Heart then proceeded to equalise in the 66th minute, through another great strike by Migliorini.

Behich managed to break the offside trap and ran to the byline, where he remained composed to find Migliorini darting in late, and the Italian midfielder rifled his shot into the goal.

Then came a moment of controversy as Heart were awarded a penalty for a handball on Tarek Elrich.

Replays showed the ball only hitting his chest, giving the Reds players every right to be furious with the decision by Strebre Delovski.

David Williams stepped up to take the spot kick and sent Galekovic the wrong way, and put Heart into an unlikely lead given the first half performance.

Their joy of being ahead was short-lived however, as six minutes later Marcelo Carrusca struck a free kick that deflected off Massimo Murdocca and went into the back of the net.

The match then went into a tense finale, with neither side fashioning another clear cut chance, and the game ended 3-3.
