Sydney FC 2
(Sam Kerr 45’+2, Leena Khamis 52′)
lost to
Melbourne Victory FC 3
(Jess Fishlock 22’, Jessica Humble 37’, Lauren Barnes 71’ (pen))

Melbourne Victory are in to their second successive home W-League Final after ending reigning champions Sydney FC season with a determined 3-2 semi-final win.

It was a sodden field after rain for two days but quite playable and both teams did well in the conditions.

Englishwomen Jodie Taylor had the first chance, for Sydney now, but Brianna Davey in the Melbourne goal saved at her left post in the 13th minute.

The 22nd minute saw Matilda Lisa De Vanna thread the ball through to Welsh wizard Jessica Fishlock, who got past Dumont and put it inside the net. 0-1

Jodie Taylor hit the left post after a free run down the left in the 23rd minute.
13 minutes later Victory had a corner, and Ameican Lauren Barnes sent it sailing in, finding Jessica Humble rising up and heading it cleanly into the back of the net. 0-2

Sydney tried to respond, and after Alesha Clifford hit wide, Sam Kerr beat Davey to a high ball and nodded it over the goal line in stoppage time. 1-2

52′ minutes in Leena Khamis made the most of a poor Victory pass attempt, and free, swung the ball well out of reach of Davey. 2-2

A great fingertip save by Dumont in the 56th minute kept a win in reach for Sydney.

Disaster in the 61st minute as Caitlin Foord controls the ball with her arm in the area, and Lauren Barnes slotted home a penalty. 2-3

Lisa De Vanna could have taken the game out of reach in the 76th minute but Dumont parried the attempt.

One minute before regular time Davey thwarted Taylor, and the game was Victory’s.
