Hyundai A-League Season 10 – 2014/15 – Round 7
5:00pm, Sunday 23 November, 2014 – Central Coast Stadium, Gosford

Central Coast Mariners FC 0
lost to
Adelaide United FC 2 (Pablo Sanchez  40′, 43′)

Central Coast Mariners were shocked by a late first half brace from Adelaide’s Pablo Sanchez and were unable to change the ledger in the second half.

Playing at the end of a very hot day, with high humidity and occasional showers the game didn’t rise to great heights but both teams gave a committed physical display (perhaps misinterpreted by the referee, who gave out 8 yellow cards and a red).

Despite matching the higher flying visitors in the firsat half, some defensive confusion by the home side allowed the Reds the ascendency.

In the 40th minute Fabio Ferreira had the ball wide on the right goal-line, and crossed inside. the ball altered course and dropped just outside the left upright, where Storm Roux was trying to mark two players. It fell sweetly for Pablo Sachez and he blated it in from point-blank range. 0-1

Just three minutes later Tarek Elrich made a surging run down the left, beating off the attentions of three Mariners, to steer a cross into the box.  Storm Roux tried to clear with a back-heel, but that man Pablo was lurking unmarked and put his shot confidently past an otherwise solid Liam Reddy in the Coast goal.

The loss leaves the normally ‘there or about at season end’ Mariners, languishing at the wrong end of the table.  They have been playing periods of nice football, interposed with dross, as well as some ‘can’t hit a barn door with a banjo’ shooting.  The visitors however look genuine Premiers material.
