The FFA Cup is steaming on – wet and hot!

The FFA Cup 2015 preliminary rounds are continuing in the various federations, as the many hundreds of starters are whittled down. 

Local grounds have seen good crowds despite very hot conditions in some areas, and heavy rains elsewhere, plus other summer attractions.

In this writers catchment, Football Northern NSW’s regional based knock-out round 2, there have been some big wins since 13 February, as Association teams match themselves against counterparts and semi-pro clubs.  

In the southern qualifiers Beresfield United Senior SC beat Warners Bay FC 10-0, Merewether Advance SFC went down 1-7 to Kotara South FC. Kahibah  FC beat Westlakes Wildcats FC 9-1. Dudley Redhead United FC went down 1-17 to Mayfield United Senior FC, Valentine FC beat Lake Macquarie City FC 8-3.

In the Hunter Valley, Singleton Strikers FC thumped neighbouring Muswellbrook FC 12-0.

In Northern NSW’s northern qualifiers Boambee Bombers cruised past Woolgoolga 8-0 on a grassy pitch at Ayrshire Park on Saturday 28 February, following postponement the previous weekend due to localised flooding. (top photo).

In the later game, Coffs City United, down 2-0 at half time, came back to claim  a  2-2 draw. Victory in a penalty shootout went 5-4 to Coffs City over Northern Storm Thunder FC.

In the south Round 3 sees semi-pros entering, with Broadmeadow Magic FC, Edgeworth Eagles FC, Lambton Jaffas FC, Adamstown Rosebud FC, Maitland FC and Toronto Awaba FC all going through.

Charlestown City Blues FC beat Plattsburg Maryland FC 15-0 to set them up for a clash with one of the heavyweights.
