12/08/2010: Slovenia christened their new stadium in Ljubljana with a conformatable 2-0 win over fellow World Cup side Australia prior to their European Cup campaign. A rebuilding Australia, with new coach Holger Osieck looking on, were very flat. Slovenia's wastefulness in front of goal prevented a larger margin - with Zlatko Dedic finally breaking the deadlock in the 78th minute with a powerfully taken header. 11/08/2010: The new Qantas Socceroos Head Coach will be Holger Osieck. Frank Lowy announced the appointment in Ljubljana this afternoon prior to Thursday morning's fixture against Slovenia at the new Sportni Park stadium. After two Dutchmen, Holger Osieck (aged 62) is a German born football coach. He most recently managed J-League club Urawa Red Diamonds in 2008, and served as an assistant coach of Germany when they won the 1990 World Cup. He also has had two spells in Turkish club football and led Canada to win the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup, plus served on FIFA’s Technical Study Group Committee at the 2010 WC. More details ...

03/08/2010: Acting Qantas Socceroos Head Coach Han Berger has selected a squad of 20-players for the upcoming international friendly fixture against Slovenia at the Sportni Park, Stozice in Ljubljana, Slovenia next Wednesday 11 August 2010 (Kick-Off 8:45pm local, 4:45am AEST (FOX). 13 of the Socceroos squad at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa are included, with James Holland, Shane Lowry, Jade

01/08/2010: The Qantas Young Socceroos have won the final of the U-19 Youth AFF Championships tournament in Vietnam beating defending champion Thailand 1-0. A late goal by Eli Babalj was enough to overcome a very tactically disciplined team and make amends for their heartbreaking 2009 loss to Thailand on penalties. Australia had drawn with Thailand in their group. The young team had defeated South Korea 1-0, drew with Thailand 1-1, and won 4-1 in the last game. 21/07/2010: Qantas Young Socceroos Head Coach Jan Versleijen has today announced his squad for the upcoming Asean Football Federation (AFF) U-19 Youth Championship 2010 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The Qantas Young Socceroos will play four matches between 24-30 July in the AFF tournament in preparation for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-19 Championships 2010 in Shandong, China, from 3-17 October, 2010. The squad, featuring 14 Hyundai A-League players and one from AIS, depart for Vietnam this Thursday .. 30/05/2010: The Westfield Matildas have won the final of AFC Women's Asian Cup 2010 on Sunday night over North Korea 5-4 on penalties, after it going ahead it was 1-1 at the end of normal time, and then no change after extra time, and Kyah Simon slotted home the winning penalty to scenes of delirium in the mud of Chengdu. 27/05/2010: The Westfield Matildas defeated in-form Japan 1-0 in a semi-final of AFC Women's Asian Cup 2010 tonight at the Chengdu Sports Centre in China. The win put the Matildas not only into the final versus North Korea on Sunday (9:30pm AET), but also straight into the World Cup in Germany next year. .. 11/05/2010: Qantas Socceroos Head Coach Pim Verbeek today announced his preliminary squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup which begins in South Africa next month. Beauchamp, Bresciano, Cahill, Carle, Carney, Chipperfield, Culina, Emerton, Federici, Galekovic, Garcia, Grella, Holland, Holman, Jedinak, Brad Jones, Kennedy, Kewell, Lowry, McDonald, Milligan, Moore, Neill, North, Oar, Rukavytsya, Schwarzer, Valeri, Vidosic, Wilkshire, Rhys Williams. As per FIFA regulations, Verbeek will only take a final squad of 23 players to South Africa for the tournament - which will be formally named on Saturday 1st June in South Africa .. International
